One dead in two-vehicle crash

A Breckenridge woman died Monday, April 22 as a result of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash.

According to Breckenridge Police Department Chief Blake Johnson, Shayden Ramsey, 22, of Breckenridge was exiting the parking lot of Walmart, located at 3800 Hwy. 180 West, when an oncoming truck struck her vehicle in the driver-side door. Ramsey and the second driver were transported to Stephens Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

According to BPD’s daily log, a call came in about a major accident at 9:03 p.m. The scene was officially cleared at 12:20 a.m. Tuesday.

Due to the ongoing investigation, Johnson did not release the name of the second driver, identified as a male. The second driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

“There’s no sign (of intoxication) at this point, but we are following up on all the standard parts of the investigation and that includes intoxication,” Johnson said. “Pending the investigation (we are not releasing) his name yet.”

Johnson said this fatality hits close to home with BPD. Ramsey, the police chief said, is the girlfriend of a BPD employee.

“Ms. Ramsey is close to the Breckenridge police officers and they are dealing with her loss along with family and friends,” a press release from the city of Breckenridge states. “The city of Breckenridge Police Department is thankful for the assistance of Sacred Heart, Breckenridge Fire Department, Stephen’s County Sheriff’s Office and local DPS State Troopers.”
