Peninsula RV project receives support from city, county

Tue, 08/17/2021 - 6:18 pm

After some roadblocks from the West Texas Municipal Water District, a potential RV park project on Hubbard Creek Lake in Breckenridge could be moving forward with the backing of two local entities.

The proposed Peninsula Lakefront RV Resort recently received letters of support from the city of Breckenridge and Stephens County ahead of the next meeting with the district, set for Wednesday, Aug. 25.

According to Colton Buckley, Executive Director of the Breckenridge Economic Development Corporation, the project has also received support from the BEDC, Breckenridge Industrial Foundation, Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce Improvement Council, and from Stephens County Judge Michael Roach. He has also been able to gather statewide support for the proposed resort.

“We got letters of support from both Senator (Charles) Perry, as well as Representative (Glenn) Rogers. We got letters of support from United States members of Congress, (August) Plfuger and (Jodey) Arrington,” Buckley said.

Brooke Hatchett, the leader of the project, along with Buckley, recently met with Breckenridge City Commissioners to ask for their letter of support. Hatchett gave a brief presentation on the project and discussed how the process has gone so far.

“I’ve been working on this project since October of 2020 and it was super slow at the beginning,” Hatchett said, at the July commissioners meeting. “Thank goodness Colton (Buckley) came in in June and things have (been) starting to speed up. I’ve seen some progress and some positive movement.”
