The Texas Department of Transportation is warning drivers of upcoming repair work on the US 180 bridge across Hubbard Creek Reservoir, also known locally as the “Mile Long Bridge.” The department does not expect traffic delays as a result of the work.

Repair work on the bridge will begin this week on the underside of the bridge, below traffic. According to a release from TxDOT, the repair work is expected to take approximately one month, weather permitting.
TxDOT advises motorists to drive with caution and watch for crews and equipment entering and exiting the work area.

The bridge was previously shut down Friday, Dec. 22, 2023 after damage was discovered on the bridge rendering it unsafe for travel. Stephens County Sheriff Kevin Roach said the closure happened after someone fishing from a boat under the bridge saw something concerning with concrete under the bridge.

Crews worked to repair the bridge in time to reopen before Breckenridge ISD resumed classes from winter break. The bridge was reopened Sunday, Jan. 7 around 3:30 p.m.

The upcoming project on the bridge will be for additional repairs to the bridge and was previously planned.
