The Breckenridge Rotary Club is inviting residents to pull up a chair, share a laugh and discover what service above self really looks like.
Beginning September 30, the club will host a social hour every fifth Tuesday of the month, offering a relaxed space for fellowship, unity and networking – what they’re calling “F.U.N.”
It is essentially a quarterly event as there are about four months a year that have a fifth Tuesday.
“We’ll rotate restaurants; the first one will be at Blackhorse Mercantile & Cafe,” said Rotary President Cynthia Northrop at an earlier meeting of the Rotary.
This first edition of the social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be a come and go event. Open to the public, the event has no formal agenda and will be focused on connection, conversation and a little friendly competition.
“We just want people to come and see what Rotary is about,” Northrop added. “We’ve got an acronym that we’ve created – and when I say we, Yuri [Huntington] has created it with a creative head. F.U.N – Fellowship, Unity and Networking. So that’s what it’s all about.”
To add a playful twist, the club is launching a contest at the first social hour: the Rotarian who brings the most guests will win a prize.
“Maybe it’s a drink–we haven’t decided yet,” Nortrhop said. “We’re looking forward to that, just getting out in the community and letting people know who we are and what we’re about, and just enjoying some fellowshipping and networking.”
Rotary members in Breckenridge are known for supporting youth scholarships, organizing cleanups and partnering with nonprofits on seasonal drives. The new social hour series aims to make that work more visible and more accessible.
