SC awaits COVID vaccine

Wed, 12/23/2020 - 5:00 am

Stephens County COVID-19 active case count increased last week, reaching 49 as of Friday, Dec. 11.

According to a letter sent from Greg Abbott, Texas’ Governor, effective Wednesday, Dec. 9, “businesses were required to ‘roll back’ operation capacities to 50% because Trauma Service Area (TSA) Region D has experienced a 15 % COVID-19 hospitalization rate for seven consecutive days since Nov. 27.”

The Texas Department of State Health Services released an update to say it is instructing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to ship COVID-19 vaccine to more than 1,100 providers in 185 Texas counties over the next week. The CDC will deliver 460,500 doses of the vaccine manufactured by Moderna and 159,900 doses of the Pfizer vaccine to continue to vaccinate front-line health care workers and residents of long-term care facilities.

This week, 224,250 doses of the Pfizer vaccine were delivered to 110 large providers to begin vaccinating health care workers.

Stephens Memorial Hospital Interim CEO Doug Smith said, “Stephens County is not yet on the list to receive the vaccine.”

An update, provided by Stephens Memorial Hospital states, “The state has developed a logic-model that will determine in what order the vaccine will be given and what communities will be receiving it in what order. We are registered to receive it and will be prepared to start administering it as soon as we receive the vaccine.”

Below is the most recent COVID-19 active case count as of Monday, December 14.

The Breckenridge American will continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic.
