Arrests were made in the recent string of vehicle burglaries within Stephens County, as stolen property is returned to citizens.

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office believes Cameron Bivins (23) and Katherine Haley Elting (18) are the two individuals responsible for the string of burglaries.

On the morning of Thursday, September 24, the SCSO began responding to a series of vehicle burglary reports in the driveways of residences on multiple county roads off FM 3201 near Hubbard Creek Lake.

A total of nine different homes reported one or more vehicles were burglarized during the nights of Wednesday, September 23, and Thursday, September 24, according to a press release from the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.

In the course of that investigation, a suspect’s vehicle was identified by the SCSO using home security surveillance footage provided by multiple citizens who live in the area.

A suspect’s vehicle was found at a residence, a few miles away from the various burglarized locations.

The SCSO made contact with multiple people at this residence, and two suspects were identified. A search of the suspect’s vehicle yielded multiple stolen items still in the suspect’s vehicle.

During the night, the SCSO recovered four other items in the home of where the suspect’s vehicle was parked.

The stolen items recovered on Thursday, September 24, included a pistol, cell phone holder, speaker box, purse, wallet, knives, jewelry, radar detector, and United States coins.

The investigation continued and additional warrants were obtained for the arrest of Elting and Bivins.

Elting and Bivins fled the county after Elting bonded out of jail on Friday, September 25, but were arrested just after midnight on Sunday, October 4 in Smith County, Texas.

Bivins was arrested onsite in Smith County for possession of marijuana more than 2 ounces but less than or equal to 4 ounces, a Class A Misdemeanor.

The two were each arrested on Stephens County warrants for theft of a firearm, which is also a felony.

The investigation into the burglaries continues and additional charges may be filed.
