Search begins for new BHS principal

Tue, 08/10/2021 - 7:06 pm

Breckenridge ISD Superintendent Bryan Allen announced last Monday, Dr. William Paul, the current principal at Breckenridge High School, will be leaving his position. Paul recently became the lone finalist for the superintendent position at Windthorst ISD.

According to a WISD Facebook post on July 29, the WISD school board unanimously voted Paul as the final candidate for the position during a special called meeting Tuesday, July 27, but must wait 21 days before officially hiring him. Paul is entering his 18th year of education, with experience as a high school principal, middle school principal and assistant principal, the post also said.

“We’re certainly happy for him,” Allen said. “It’s certainly put us in a bind. Just the timing of it is not great, but we’ve got the job posted, we’ve gotten some applicants who look fairly decent on paper, especially considering the time of year it is. We are going to move forward and start the search.”

Allen spoke about putting together a committee which would review applicants and would also be involved in the interviewing process. In a process that normally takes six to eight weeks, the committee will narrow down the field to two or three candidates, with Allen making the final hiring decision.

“We’re going to try to speed that up a little bit,” Allen said. “What I’ve presented, in a tentative timeline, would narrow that down to a couple of weeks, (taking) the two-interview approach out of it.”
