Stephens County Sheriff Will Holt announced the promotion of three of his staff members to Shift Sergeant. They were sworn in Monday night, Jan. 7.

The three who were sworn in were Malcom Bufkin Jr., Samantha Pedroza and Drew Boggs. Each had worked for the department as a detention officer prior to their promotion. Both Bufkin and Pedroza have worked for the sheriff’s department for over six years, while Boggs has worked now for over two years. Holt said the three will be filling two 12-hour day shifts and one 12-hour night shift. Holt added the goal is to have two for each time, so at the moment the department is still in need of one sergeant for the night shift.

In total, there are 13 jailers, which Holt said is fully staffed for the jail. The department hired three new people in the past couple of months. “The sheriffs office and the community are definitely better off having these three individuals promoted to supervisors,” Hold said. “Personally and professionally I’m very proud of them. All three of them have shown leadership skills and supervisory skills before being promoted. We as a leadership team recognize that and that is one of the many reasons they were promoted.”
