Stephens Memorial Hospital board of trustees introduced new interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO) William “Buddy” Whiddon, while the board continues the search for a Chief Executive Officer.

The board introduced Whiddon Thursday, Feb. 20. The new interim CFO brings a wealth of knowledge in the healthcare sector.

“I’ve known Buddy for 25 years and he brings a wealth of experience,” Doug Smith, SMH interim CEO, said. “He is here to support me and provide insight until the hospital makes a final decision on the CEO position.”
Whiddon graduated from McNeese State University with a degree in accounting and is the only one of six siblings in his family to attend college.

Whiddon has worked in the healthcare sector in various states, such as Texas and Louisiana, with experience in the greater Houston area.

“Although I’ve had a ton of experience in the Houston area, I’m a small-town boy,” Whiddon said. “I know what it’s like when a hospital is struggling with cash or whatever it is, but what I’ve seen in three days is that it’s a great opportunity here.”

The new interim CFO will assist the SMH board of trustees with improving finances.
