After successful February competitions, the Pride of Breckenridge will be sending 36 students to the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Competition and adding another sweepstakes award to their list of accolades.
Members of the Breckenridge High School band competed Saturday, Feb. 7 at the UIL Solo and Ensemble contest at Wichita Falls Memorial High School, with several ensembles receiving Division 1, or superior, ratings and advancing to state competition Monday, May 25 in Austin.
The accolades continued for the band program when they performed Wednesday, Feb. 25 at the UIL Concert and Sightreading contest at Seymour High School.
The BHS band received a superior rating from all judges in both the concert and sightreading evaluations, completing the requirements for the sweepstakes award for a second-consecutive year.
The award is presented to groups who receive overall superior ratings in marching, concert and sightreading evaluations.
“These successes would not be possible without the support of the entire Breckenridge community, including parents, businesses, the BISD Band Booster organization and an outstanding school administration and board,” BHS Band Director Joe Barrow said.
Band directors Joe and Melissa Barrow said they were proud of the hard work and dedication the band students have shown for the program, as well as the support from staff at Breckenridge ISD.
“Special thanks goes to BISD Superintendent Prairie Freeman, BHS past principal Paul Armstrong and current principal Laura Gibson, coach Casey Pearce and the entire BHS faculty for their unwavering support of the BISD band program,” Barrow said.
