State voter registration deadline approaching for election

Early voting begins Oct. 18 for Constitutional Amendment Election

The deadline to register to vote in the November Constitutional Amendment Election is approaching at the beginning of October. There are eight constitutional amendments which will appear on the ballot in Stephens County, but no other local ballot issues.

The office of the Texas Secretary of State decided the order of constitutional amendments which will appear on the November election ballot Thursday, July 29. Deputy Secretary of State Joe Esparza drew the ballot order in July for the eight proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution.

According to the department, proposed amendments must be approved by at least two-thirds of members of both the Texas Senate and the Texas House of Representatives to appear on the ballot. Once on the ballot, state registered voters will have the opportunity during the Nov. 2 election to approve or reject the amendments with a majority vote.

The November uniform election had a deadline of Thursday, June 17, to post notice of candidate filing with the first day to file for a place on the ballot being Saturday, July 17, and the last day being Monday, Aug. 16. The last day to order a general election or special election measure was Aug. 16. The last day to register to vote in the November election is Monday, Oct. 4. The last day to apply for a ballot by mail will be Friday, Oct. 22.

Early voting in the election will be held weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, to Friday, Oct. 29, at the Stephens County Courthouse, located at 200 W. Walker Street, in Breckenridge.

According to the county’s election website, voting precincts of 1-11 and 5-11 will be combined and voting will be conducted at the First National Bank Tower Room, located at 101 E. Walker Street, in Breckenridge. There will not be voting at the Wayland Volunteer Fire Department for this November election.

Election day voting will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, for voters from precincts 1 and 5 at the FNB Tower Room; precinct 2 voters will vote at the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, located at 1601 W. Elliott Street, in Breckenridge; precinct 3 voting will be held at the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce, located at 100 E. Elm Street, in Breckenridge; and precinct 4 voting will be held at the Breckenridge ISD Support Center (Bus Barn), located at 907 U.S. Highway 183 N, in Breckenridge.
