    The Texas Department of State Health Services is looking to assist citizens in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the help of other local groups, the community is looking to assist those in need. Contributed photo

The Texas Department of State Health Services is assisting citizens, who have tested positive for COVID-19, in need. In an attempt to decrease disease transmission, DSHS is offering a temporary lodging facility for persons diagnosed with COVID-19 who are unable to isolate at home.

No medical care is available on-site. The billeting service is intended for persons who do not require medical monitoring during their illness course, and only need room to isolate themselves from others. Qualifying cases must meet the eligibility criteria. Persons with documented exposure to COVID-19 who need 14-day quarantine but are unable to self-quarantine in their home might also be eligible.

This service is offered for a limited time and space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Three meals per day will be provided, but no visitation will be allowed during isolation or quarantine.

Region 2 Location: Wichita Falls; open August 10th.

Region 3 Location: Garland; scheduled to open on August 12th.

Stephens County also offers services to citizens in need during this trying time.

The Salvation Army can provide citizens in need of financial assistance the necessary aid during the pandemic. The charitable organization can provide citizens with $300 and can assist citizens in need once every six months.

“If citizens know they are aren’t going to be able to pay their bills before the service is disconnected, we are trying to get them in the habit of filling the application before the cut off date,” County Judge Michael Roach said. “We have a dropbox application at the courthouse and the Salvation Army can help with utilities, grocery, and other necessities.”

Citizens can also be assisted with rolling planes, this will assist paying veterans, disabled, elderly citizens on a fixed income. It will also assist individuals with utility bills.

The Breckenridge Ministerial Alliance, American Red Cross, and other local groups also provide citizens with assistance during this difficult time.
