Stephens County 4-H came away with some success from the State Fair of Texas, with two teams and one individual participating in competitions.

Both the junior and senior plant identification teams had good performances at the plant ID contest Saturday, Sept. 27.

The junior plant identification team of Evelyn Halari, Lydia Moreno and Marielle Green was named the champion junior team. Individually, Halari placed first overall, Moreno placed third and Green placed fourth.

Stephens County also had the reserve champion senior team, consisting of Josiah Moreno, Kason Burchett and Chloe Tait. Moreno placed second overall, while Burchett placed fourth.

Meanwhile, Sylee Mitchell participated in the market goats show that took place Monday, Sept. 29.

She was also scheduled to participate in the wether doe and wether dam show, with her one market wether and two wether does Tuesday, Oct. 14. However, an illness was running through her show does after taking them to the Heart of Texas Show in Waco.

“Although I didn't place in the market show, the experience was incredibly rewarding as always. I got to meet lots of new people and make valuable connections within the livestock industry,” Mitchell said. “What I found particularly fulfilling was having the chance to help new showmen with their projects and share what I've learned with others.”
