Stephens County Humane Society hosting annual fundraiser 5K, Fun Run

The Stephens County Humane Society is calling all dogs and animal lovers to the Wags & Whiskers 5K and Furry Fun run in December. All proceeds from the event will benefit the humane society.

The Stephens County Animal Welfare Center in Breckenridge is a non-profit, no-kill animal rescue shelter which works with partner organizations and individuals across the country to match animals with homes.

The SCHS Wags & Whiskers 5K and Furry Fun run will be held Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Breckenridge City Park, 601 E. Walker St. The 5K race will be held at 9 a.m. and the Fun Run will be held at 9:15 a.m. Check-in on race day will be from 8-8:45 a.m. The race will be a chip timed event that has tracking information and finish times for the runners on display at runsignup.com. Participants are welcome to enter the run with their dog on a leash.

Pre-registration for the 5K event for those 18-years-old and over will be $30, with race-day registration increasing to $35. Pre-registration for the 5K event for those 17-years-old and under will be $20, with race-day registration increasing to $25.

Pre-registration for the Fun Run event will be $15, with race-day registration increasing to $20. Registration can be completed at runsignup.com/Race/TX/Breckenridge/WagsWhiskers5K. Registration can also be completed by contacting Stacey Donaldson at stacey.donaldson@wildblue.net.

Awards will be presented in male and female categories for age groups of 12-years-old and under, 13-17, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and those 70-years-old and older. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age division and to the top male and female runners.

Donations to SCHC can also be made through the runsignup website for the race under the donate tab. Donations can be made by name, anonymously or on behalf of a business, organization or other group.

As of Sunday, Nov. 21, $575 has been raised for the humane society through the donation page for the 2021 event.
