Stephens County has reached an agreement with the stakeholders at Breck Airways and the county has purchased the fixed based operator, and fuel farms.

The airport is looking to develop an airport lease, offering a longterm lease for citizens with hangers. The individuals who already have hangers were offered a 25- year lease with two ten year extensions.

“In consultation with our attorney, we have worked on this project since March of 2019,” Stephens County Judge Michael Roach said. “We have to provide a long term lease for people who own hangers and with the new airport rules.”

The county would raise the leasing rates for all hangers and in hopes of generating new funding for the airport.

“We’re going to do things like providing security entrance for going back to the hanger and for access to the runway,” Roach said. “We’ll also add an animal-proof fence, courtesy car, signs, covered parking and in the not so distant future, we’ll have hangers for people staying overnight. We hope to make this one of the nicest rural airports around.”

The county has established an airport advisory board with such members as Michael Roach, Mark McCullough, Gregg Goodall, Adam Letts, Jeff Pilot, and Chad Ezell will serve on the board.

The board will assist the commissioners with the nuance of aviation and assist with developing plans for the county.

The county will also hire a full-time employee to fuel planes and the agreement became official on Monday, June 1.
