Things to Think About … instead of living in the real world

Wed, 01/20/2021 - 5:00 am

I came across a cute thing on Facebook the other morning. Praise the Lord, it had nothing to do with Pandemics or Presidential Inaugurations/Impeachments or the poor old people waiting in their cars at the stadium for a vaccination. Some of you may have seen it, too, but it is worth getting my take on this. As a member of the press, I have insights into the “truth,” of which others are certainly in need.

The last few “things to think about” didn’t show up on the Facebook page at first, so they must be very important. Pay attention! One of these “things to think about” said “many animals probably need glasses, but nobody knows it.” Of course, we all notice when it gets so bad that they are running into furniture and walls, like Zuckey did during her last years. Looking back on it, she may have been dyslexic. I never tested her. I am sure that she had dysgraphia. That’s when they have a hard time writing. Zuckey could not hold a pencil … and when she did, it was with her mouth and she had a tendency to chew it. Maybe that was what was wrong with Sam O’Brien a friend of mine in third grade. He couldn’t read or write very well … and he chewed on those soft Ticonderoga pencils until they looked like termites had moved out. I’m not sure if glasses would have helped Zuckey, but Sam might have changed his ways if he had caught a glimpse of himself with all those splinters in his lip.

Another “thing to think about” said “if poison is past its expiration date, is it more poisonous or is it no longer poisonous. Now, if someone is bound and determined to use poison to kill someone, they probably don’t worry about how strong it is. They just use it and see if the police show up. If nothing happens in fourteen days, they probably need to get a new bottle. It’s just not something you can ask the pharmacist about. Those people at the drug store are really tattle-tales when it comes down to it. Just ask them for a little arsenic or cyanide and watch their eyes get big. You probably won’t have to wait fourteen days to get a visit from the police.

Another killer might be oxygen. The “things to think about” questioned whether it was slowly killing you … “and it just takes 75-100 years to fully work.” I don’t personally have a problem with the need for extra oxygen, but this makes me think that we’d better do some major research. I’m approaching the bottom edge of that range and really need to know. I hear that going “cold turkey” in breaking the oxygen habit can be a real killer.

One of the biggies on the “things to think about” had to do with the words “What, Where, and When.” (These are words dear to us who are in journalism.) Just change the W to a T and you get the answer to the questions. What? That … Where? There … When? Then. Interesting. Of course, English teachers around the world shudder at the thought of teaching the spelling of There, Their, and They’re and ending up with the answer to “Where?” being Their over they’re at there house. Lord help us all.

This was a good distraction today. I’m not sure who finds these things and loads them to social media sites, but they help in this crazy world. There were several more, but you will just have to live in ignorance … or search for it on Facebook.
