Texas State Technical College (TSTC) Welding Technology instructor Stephen Hope and his students have been chosen by the Breckenridge Downtown Development Council (BDDC) to weld four new welcome signs for the city of Breckenridge. A sign will be placed at each of the city’s four entrances.

The first sign will be at least 20-feet wide and nearly 20-feet tall and welded onsite under the instruction of Hope. He said in a press release he believes this will be beneficial for his students.

“They will be able to get a feel for something they might be doing on a job site. This will be a great way to expose our students to work outside of the lab,” Hope said.

BDDC Chairman JB Sparks said bids for other aspects of the project are being considered, but the decision to use TSTC for the community-wide project was an easy one.

“As a council, we are big advocates for TSTC and the campus in Breckenridge. The way that Stephen works with the students and the community is something we wanted to acknowledge with this project. We are so pleased Stephen and his students will be part of this project. We could not do this without them,” Sparks stated.

Hope said they are working on getting supplies ordered and are excited to get started on this project.
