Two boil water notices issued last week, one rescinded on Friday

Wed, 01/23/2019 - 5:00 am

Two boil water notices were put in place this week by the city. The first was put in place Monday, Jan. 14 for West Walker South and from South rose to South Douglas, as well as South Cutting Cottage Power Parish Valley Aberdean, and the second, placed Tuesday, Jan. 15, was for North Parks Street from Jeanette to Second Street, according to a release from the city. The one regarding West Walker South and from South Rose to South Douglas, as well as South Cutting Cottage Power Parish Valley Aberdean, was rescinded on Friday, Jan. 18.

Both notices were due to a water line break from construction. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the system to notify all customers within the specified block to boil their water for at least two minutes prior to consumption, according to the release.

Boiling your water for at least two minutes ensures that all harmful bacteria or microbes are destroyed. This includes water used for cooking, drinking and ice-making. If you do not want to boil your water, the release also states it is appropriate to use water from other sources, such as bottled water.

The notice will be in effect for a minimum of 48 hours. When it is no longer required to boil your water, the system will notify all impacted customers in the area.
