TxDOT brings on new area engineer

The Texas Department of Transportation (Tx-DOT) has announced the new Area Engineer for its Brownwood District, according to a news release from the department. He began his job on Dec. 1, 2018.

Bob Cochrane has been selected as the Eastland Area Engineer. This area includes three counties, which are Stephens, Eastland and Comanche, according to the release.

The area engineer is responsible for all area office operations in the three counties, Public nformation fffier isa Tipton stated. His role will be to interpret, organize, plan, schedule, execute and coordinate all major technical engineering assignments.

He will also manage construction and maintenance actives, perform engineering design work, calculate costs and will conduct various studies for the Eastland Area Office. He will also manage professional, technical and clerical employees, and supervisors. His job will require extensive contact with governmental officials and private entities, Tipton stated.

Cochrane graduated fromTexasA&MUniversity in 1984 with a civil engineering degree, the release states. He has been with TxDOT since 1986, and has held numerous titles and positions, including the Del Rio Assistant Area Engineer, Bridge Construction Engineer, North Austin Assistant Area Engineer, Hearne Area Engineer and Bryan District Maintenance Engineer.

He retired from the department in 2011 and worked as the Grimes County Engineer until 2015. Since 2016, he has worked as a project manager for consulting firms, according to the release. In his spare time, Cochrane enjoys boating, riding his motorcycle and working on old cars.
