Unemployment claims exceed 700

According to a recent graph by TWC, unemployment claims have reached to 710 individuals in Stephens County compared to 20 claims in 2019.

In the last four weeks statistics find 46 additional individuals filing for unemployment.

The numbers began to increase in mid-March jumping from one claim for the week of March 14 to 35 claims by the end of March. In April there were 123 claims; In the month of May there were 179 claims; June had 62 filings for unemployment bringing the total to 400.

The three week period for the end of June and early July was 70 total individuals. For the week of June 27, 18 individuals filed unemployment claims which was a decrease in the statistics. 52 individuals have filed claims within the two weeks of July 4 and July 11.

The number began to decrease in late July and early August with weekly statistics showing 14 claims in the week of July 25, 16 claims for the week of August 1.

There was an influx of claims in August with a total of 86, 68 in September and 105 in October.

Statistics from the Texas Workforce Commissioner are released once a week and do not include statistics from the previous two weeks.

Citizens can request payment by logging on to the Texas Workforce Commission’s website. Citizens will need a username and password or can call 800-558-8321 for assistance. When calling for assistance, citizens will need their social security number and a four-digit pin.
