It is that time of year once again, when the United Fund board members get into high gear for fundraising to benefit numerous non-profit organizations within Stephens County.

The United Fund thermometer is set up at Foundation Park. All the donations made by benefactors stays in the county to benefit organizations such as the Swenson Memorial Museum, the Breckenridge Library and youth groups like the Cub/Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, youth football, baseball, softball, along with the Child Welfare Board and the Stephens County Animal Shelter. Meals-on-Wheels and the Senior Center are two other groups that receive support from the United Fund.

Additionally, All His Children was added this year, along with the Boy Scout Troop #63, which was inactive for a few years.

The goal this year is set at $17,000, which was re-configured from last year and more realistic. The Fund had to make small cuts to most organizations based on donations from last year.

Donations so far this year, as of Nov. 1, have been close to $5,000 and they include from the following donors: Paul Prater, Bendorf Services, Breck Operating, Breckenridge Rotary Club, Breckenridge Interbank, BRICO Oil, City of Breckenridge, David Clark, Neal and Jean Edwards, Mr. and Mrs. Carl B. Everett III, Four Points Oil and Gas, GLOC Simulation, Mike and Cassie Griffith, T.C. Harris Jr., Jack and Carrol Morehart, Owen Surveying Co., Ira Parks Sloan, Heatly Surveying, Chaunce O. Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Thompson, Sloan and Mary Thompson and Scott Waller.

If you did not receive a donation card, contact any member of the Board of Directors, which includes President Sherry Strickland, Treasurer Kevin Simmons, Cassie Griffith, Gary Trammal, Jean Hayworth, Secretary Whitney Fulgham (Secretary), Sandy Broyles, Sharon Wimberley, Scott Harris, Wayne and Lynda Justus, Kathy O’Shields, Jeannie Gann, Bo Asher and Les Strickland. Donations so far have reached $5,042, which is 29 percent of the program’s goal, as of Nov. 5.

Donations can be made as a payroll deductible amount through your employer, such as at First National Bank, which has had 100 percent participation the last two years and United Super Market, with Lee Olson has been close to 100 percent from their employees last year. The same setup can be done by City and Stephens County employees and at Breckenridge ISD.

There also is a method to donate as a memorial on behalf of a loved one. Both Funeral Homes have memoriam cards available and can help you with that type of donation.

Remember, all the money donated, stays in Stephens County for residents, young and old.
