April 15 is deadline for property tax renditions

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar is reminding business owners that for many property types, April 15 is the deadline to file property tax renditions with their county appraisal districts. Different deadlines apply for certain regulated property. Check with Stevens County Appraisal District for details.

BISD students compete in academic contest at MSU

The following students competed in the UIL Academic Competition, at Midwestern State University, in the different categories. Several students earned designations as Regional Qualifiers or Alternate Qualifiers in their specific category and are noted below. If a team places first in a category, then all mem bers of that team are Regional Qualifiers. If they place first, second or third as an individual, then they are designated as Regional Qualifiers. If a student places fourth, they are considered a Regional Alternate.

Bill tightening voting restrictions in Texas passes Senate committee

A Texas Senate committee on Friday passed an elections bill that would tighten the state’s voting rules by limiting extended early voting hours, requiring proof of disability to qualify for mail-in voting and prohibiting drive-thru voting. Senate Bill 7, sponsored by Sen. Bryan Hughes, R-Mineola, is one of Gov. Gregg Abbott’s legislative priorities this session.

DSHS expanding COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to all adults

The Texas Department of State Health Services announced last week all adults will be eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine in Texas beginning this past Monday. DSHS also announced loosened visitation rules for longterm care facilities throughout the state.

The president of the Stephens County Child Welfare Board, Sharon Wimberley, went before Judge Michael Roach and the four County Commissioners, Will Warren, Eric O’Dell, Mark McCullouch and David Fambro, to ask that the month of April be declared Child Abuse Awareness Month.
