March: The Winter Storm

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve heard from many of you about the power outages and the physical and financial suffering caused by the unprecedented winter storm our state experienced. Like most of you, I am disappointed, frustrated and question how this could have happened in Texas, a state with vast natural resources and a diverse power supply.

A fire completely destroyed the home of Elaine Perales on Wed. Feb. 24, located at 510 E. Dyer St. including a fully functioning GMC 1500 pickup owned by her nephew, Andy Perales, who was a resident. No one was home at the time of the fire.

County Commissioners extend disaster declaration

County Commissioners extend disaster declaration

County commissioners voted in favor of extending the disaster declaration for Stephens County for at least the next 30 days. Judge Michael Roach proposed the extension to allow businesses and individuals time to assess for property damage.

Power infrastructure winterization made a Legislative priority by Governor

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott gave an update last Wednesday regarding the response to the severe weather conditions two weeks ago and the power outages caused by that weather. Among other concerns, Gov. Abbott said he has made it a legislative priority to mandate and fund the winterization of the state’s power infrastructure.
