There is a sign of economic growth returning to Breckenridge after listening to the Breckenridge Economic Development Corporation providing city officials a semi-annual report of the activities of the BEDC. The semi-annual report, submitted by Virgil Moore, Executive Director of the BEDC included April through September of 2020.

Stephens County has seen a week of a downward trend in active cases of the COVID-19 virus. Several individuals were moved from the active list to recovered, bringing the total of 53 active cases to 47 as of Friday, November 6.

Chief Deputy Kevin Roach and Deputy Trent McLane initiated a traffic stop on a white SUV traveling northbound on US 183 South on the evening on Oct. 22. The driver and lone occupant, Jose Luis Nunez-Rodriguez, was unable to provide any type of identification. He claimed to not speak English and initially only gave part of his full name.

Gas prices see a 10.2 drop from last month

Texas gas prices have fallen 2.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $1.77/g today, according to Gas-Buddy’s daily survey of 13,114 stations. Gas prices in Texas are 10.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 49.9 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

Those of you who are more inclined to identify specific towns in relation to landmarks in the county, maybe more aware that Double Mountain became Harpersville because it was organized at the foot of Double Mountain. Of course, since I originated in Pennsylvania, where there are the real Appalachian Mountains, I consider the slight uprisings in Stephens County topography to be more like ‘hills’ than ‘mountains.’ Tongue in cheek touch of humor there Breckenridge. As most of you know, I have called this county home for more than four decades and my children all graduated from Breckenridge High School.

It was sounded an hour before the final bugle call to end the day by extinguishing fires and lights. The last five measures of the tattoo resemble taps.
