Today last day to register to vote

Today, Oct. 9, is the last day to register to vote in the state of Texas. If you are not registered by today, you will not be able to vote in the midterm election next month.

You can register to vote by-mail or in person at a local election office. In Stephens County, this is at the County Courthouse at 200 West Walker, Breckenridge, Texas, 76424. The courthouse is open until 5 p.m.

In order to successfully register, you must show photo identification. This is also something you will need at the ballot next month.

Woman's Forum kicks off year with Sheriff Holt self-defense lesson

The Woman's Forum kicked off the new year with a program presented by Sheriff Will Holt, who led a discussion about self defense.

"In today's climate it is important to be more aware of our surroundings," Holt said. "Check where the exits are for this Forum building, your churches, schools or other meeting places. Be aware of your surroundings."

City commissioners to meet

The Breckenridge City Commissioners will meet for their normal meeting at 5:30 p.m. The agenda looks to be short, with four items on the consent agenda and a couple resolutions up for individual consideration. One item of note is a resolution that will allow for the city manager to apply for a Criminal Justice Division Grant.
