A boil water notice for the 400, 500 and 600 blocks of West Elm Street, the 100 and 200 blocks of North McAmis Street, North Miller Street and North Smith Street, effective Wednesday, June 26, according to a release from the city.

Due to a water line break from construction, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the system to notify all customers within the specified block to boil their water for at least two minutes prior to consumption, according to the release.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre put on their annual show on Saturday, June 22, with 50 children participating and presenting, “The Snow Queen” at the National Theatre. While the children put the show on, the performance is helped made possible by the Friends of Historic Breckenridge and several members from the Breckenridge community.

The play was conceived and written by Michael McGill, who also composed the music and lyrics. MCT adapted the original works for the children's theatre productions.

Breckenridge Independent School District's Superintendent Tim Seymore announced to his staff and officials on Wednesday, June 19 that he will be retiring, effective Aug. 31.

At the moment, no official action has been taken and Seymore has not released any details to the public. The action will be made official at a future board meeting, which is still to be determined.

Seymore is retiring after 31 years in the field. The Breckenridge American will continue to update the public as more information is learned.

The Breckenridge Planning and Zoning recommended to reject the change to the city ordinance regarding whether in-home daycare and schooling should be permitted in R-1 dwelling districts Monday, June 3. But in turn, they recommended cleaning up the language of the ordinance to make it clearer, grandfathered in certain daycares that are already in R-1 districts, and voted to allow home-schooling across all zones.

U.S. Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-19) visited Breckenridge on Tuesday, May 28 for a town hall. He gave updates on various happenings in the House and Washington D.C., and fielded questions from constituents.

Topics covered included accomplishments in his first term, the military, the economy and trade war, healthcare, goals and Iran. An introduction was read by Virgil Moore, the Breckenridge Economic Development Corporation’s executive director. Afterwards, Arrington took the podium and discussed first what he accomplished in his first term.

A property on North Jackson Road has been causing headaches for Stephens County. The property, which fell into their laps after a tax suit, has presented officials with several issues, including a nest of dumping and title discrepancies.

The Breckenridge Rotary Club and Breckenridge Lions Club are hosting the first annual KidFish at the frong pond on Saturday, May 11 from 8 a.m. to noon at the frog pond next to the Stephens County Animal Shelter.

This event was originally scheduled for early April, but was cancelled due to weather. The event is being hosted for kids up to 16 years old with the aim of teaching them how to fish. No fishing license is required and all fishing gear and bait will be provided, along with drinks and snacks.

Roughly three dozen residents were in attendance of the Breckenridge City Commissioners’ meeting Tuesday, May 7 as a response to a couple of items on the docket. The agenda included discussion about the city's zoning ordinance clause that limits where in-home daycares could set up and a presentation from several students regarding bringing back the YMCA.

Breckenridge High School was burglarized early Thursday morning by two individuals who at this time have not been identified, according to officials from the school district.

The two individuals broke into the cafeteria and the band hall and stole several items, with each individual carrying a backpack. At this time, Superintendent Tim Seymore said the district is not disclosing what items were stolen, but said the items could fit into the backpacks of the culprits.
