Stephens Memorial Hospital has officially been designated a critical access hospital (CAH) as it makes the conversion from a Prospective Payment System (PPS) facility. To fully complete the transition, SMH will have to redo some of its reimbursement rates.
The Stephens County Commissioners Court recently approved an interlocal agreement between the county and the City of Breckenridge.

Alex Kielar The Texas Education Agency (TEA) released its spring 2025 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness results for both End-of-Course assessments and grades 3-8 over the last two weeks. The EOC results, which include district and campus level performance, were released Tuesday, June 10 and the grade three through eight results were released Tuesday, June 17.
Stephens County 4-H announced last week that one of their own, Sylee Mitchell, has been newly elected as the District 3 4-H parliamentarian. An incoming junior, Mitchell was elected out of 11 other candidates across the district to represent its 4-H program.

Originally scheduled for last Saturday, June 14, the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce is holding a 10k Run and Walk Saturday, June 21, to raise funds for next year's Boomfest. The Chamber announced Wednesday, June 18, that this year's Boomfest has been cancelled due to a lack of funding. The scheduled date of the 10k was pushed back a week due to unsuitable conditions on the course following the severe weather that occurred on Sunday, June 8.
Having moved to Breckenridge to become the Breckenridge High School Theater Arts teacher two years ago, Cassie Johnson recently earned her second Master’s degree from Angelo State University. The first Master’s that Johnson earned was a Master of Science in mental health and wellness, which she received around the time that she and her family moved here.
For the second straight year, Stephens County 4-H came home with 4-H State Roundup championships. Taking place Monday, June 2 through Thursday, June 5 at Texas A&M University in College Station, Stephens County 4-H had the state roundup champion Range and Pasture Grass Identification team and the champion Range Evaluation team.
