Fewer students at BISD, attendance drops in January

According to the latest report from Breckenridge ISD Superintendent Prairie Freeman, the total number of students from this point last year to now is down 25 students. The superintendent also said during the latest BISD School Board of Trustees meeting Monday, Feb.

DAR showcases exhibit

The Picketville Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas have presented The Republic of Texas Exhibit at Breckenridge Fine Arts Center starting Tuesday, Jan. 21 and going through Saturday, March 15.

County approves changes to wind farm agreement

After Stephens County Judge Michael Roach noted that it will be the final amendment he votes to approve, the commissioners approved an amendment to the tax abatement agreement with La Casa Wind, LLC, regarding the wind energy generation project.

Three BHS alumni named to ACU Dean’s Honor Roll

Abilene Christian University announced its Dean’s Honor Roll students for the Fall 2024 semester last week and three Breckenridge High School alumni received the recognition. The BHS Class of 2023 Salutatorian and accounting major Heer Gandhi; the BHS Class of 2023 Valedictorian and computer science major Keaton Ragle; and psychology major Abigaile Wylie, a BHS 2022 graduate and recipient of the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce Scholarship, all earned spots on the ACU Dean’s Honor Roll.

CDBG contract awarded to eHT

After opening up Request for Qualifications (RFQs) regarding their pursuit of a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for the 2025/26 CDBG in early January, the city received eight submissions by the January 23 deadline.

Jennings hired as animal control supervisor

The city of Breckenridge has worked to improve its animal control operations since last October, following the death and euthanization of several dogs at the animal shelter. One of the steps for improvement was naming a new Animal Control Operations (ACO) supervisor to lead the shelter’s new direction.
