An Opening Day celebration and fundraiser will be held this Saturday in Woodson.
It’s time again for Woodson’s 3rd Annual Welcome Hunters Community Feast. Come one and all and enjoy good food and fellowship.
This year’s event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4. The event will be held at Woodson Town Hall, located at 221 U.S. Highway 183 North.
All proceeds from this event benefit the New Woodson Community Center Project.

The volleyball girls had their first playoff game on Tuesday! The Cowboys are headed to the playoffs as well. Woodson Junior High School are district champs in volleyball and in football!
The Stephens County Commissioner’s Court voted to enact an animal policy for the courthouse and courthouse lawn. The policy prohibits any animal from entering the courthouse that is not trained and certified as a service animal.
The policy, which had been on the agenda for discussion for the commissioners’ last four meetings, was approved following a vote during the Monday, Oct. 23 commissioners court meeting.
During a special meeting Monday, Oct. 30, Stephens County Commissioners appointed Assistant County Treasurer Mary O’Dell as county treasurer, replacing Sharon Trigg.
Commissioners met in an emergency meeting on Monday, Oct 23 to discuss the resignation and again Monday, Oct. 30. Trigg stated her intention to resign to Stephens County Judge Michael Roach following a regular meeting on the morning of Oct. 23. Her resignation was formally submitted the next day.

he First Methodist Church in Breckenridge began preparations last week for its 75th annual Turkey Dinner. The annual meal will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9.
The meal, which returned last year from a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will offer in-person meals at the church, located at 419 W. Walker St. in Breckenridge. A carry-out option is also available.
When UIL returned to competition in the fall of 2020, schools across Texas faced several challenges. Breckenridge High School rose to the challenge and created a new educational opportunity in broadcasting with its Livestream Media Team.

The Stephens County Commissioners Court and city of Breckenridge have reached an interlocal agreement for the shared use of a new emergency alert system in Stephens County.
Hyper-Reach, the new emergency alert system that will be used in the county, was approved by commissioners in July, and replaces the previous system, Code Red.

Abbott ties voucher passage to teacher pay, school funding
Gov. Greg Abbott, just hours after the Senate initially approved a school voucher measure, said he would add teacher raises and increased public school funding to the ongoing special session agenda if the Texas Legislature passes his voucher plan, the Texas Tribune reported.
