City approves funding for capital improvements

The city of Breckenridge is continuing with its road improvement project plans with the approval of Certificates of Obligation to use for capital improvements, including street and park improvements as well as facility upgrades for the public works department.

County approves new emergency alert system

Stephens County Commissioners approved the switch to a new emergency alert system for the county last week during their regular meeting. Following a proposal approval last week, the county will switch to the Hyper-Reach system from the current system, Code Red.

County approved for CDBG, approves truck purchase

Stephens County and the city of Breckenridge continued its progress toward improving city streets last week with Stephens County Judge Stephen Roach’s announcement of the county’s approval for a Community Development Block Grant with the money planned to help Breckenridge with its road improvement plan announced earlier this year.

City proposes new tax rate

The Breckenridge City Commission held a budget workshop Thursday, July 27, with City Manager Cynthia Northrop giving city commissioners an overview of the proposed budget and tax rate for the upcoming tax year.

SMH directors propose tax rate

Budget and tax season is underway for the upcoming fiscal year for Stephens Memorial Hospital. The SMH Board of Directors met Thursday, July 20 for their monthly meeting and approved to propose a new tax rate as the board prepares to host the required public hearing next month before the rate adoption.
