SMH approves ultrasound purchase

Following the approval of the proposed tax rate for the 2023 tax year, the board of directors approved a lease for a new ultrasound machine for the hospital. With funding assistance from the Stephens Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the hospital will be purchasing a Canon Aplio A550, or comparable, ultrasound machine for use at the hospital at a cost of $82,760. The cost includes a one-year warranty and a four-year service plan at $9,984 per year.

Stephens County holding Eastand shooting suspect

Stephens County is coming to the aid of Eastland County following a shooting incident that resulted in the death of an Eastland County deputy Friday night. Cody Douglas Pritchard, 42, was booked into the Stephens County Jail Saturday morning with the charge of capital murder of a peace officer.

Tax office to be closed

County commissioners vote to join opioid settlements

Stephens County will begin receiving monthly payments later this year as a result of settlements with CVS, Walgreen and Walmart. The settlements are three of several worked out by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and several opioid manufacturers and distributors since 2020.

According to the notice, the impacted area is for SRSUD Customers located on FM 3099 beginning at the intersection of FM 3099 & CR 321, then continuing North on FM 3099, to include the Breezy Point area.

TEA releases STAAR EOC spring results

After a delay, the Texas Education Agency released spring 2023 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) results for end-of-course (EOC) assessments on June 30. The results include assessments in Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology, and U.S. History.
