BHS hires new volleyball coach

A familiar face will return to a familiar role when the Breckenridge Lady Buckaroos volleyball team officially begins practice later this month. Breckenridge Athletic Director Casey Pearce announced the hiring of Krista Wilcox as the school’s varsity volleyball coach.

County-wide burn ban in effect

Stephens County Commissioners unanimously voted to issue a burn ban effective Monday, July 10. The decision was made on advice given by county constable Wayne McMullen.

County issues resolution for safe firework usage

The Commissioners Court of Stephens County passed a resolution, Thursday, June 29, supporting law enforcement efforts to prevent the use of fireworks on county property and roads. Thursday’s resolution comes after several days of high temperatures have resulted in a spike in the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI), which is used to predict the likelihood and severity of wildfire.

Passing the gavel

A new era of leadership was ushered in Tuesday, June 27 as the Rotary Club of Breckenridge held its club installation of officers at Dos Gallos restaurant. Outgoing president Luke Grider officially passed the gavel to JB Sparks, who will lead the club over the next two years.

Commissioners approve bids for courthouse repairs, beautification

Upgrades and a facelift are coming on the way to the Stephens County Courthouse. The Commissioners Court of Stephens County approved bids for a new air conditioning system for the courthouse and landscape work around the courthouse lawn. A bid was also approved for work on the county law enforcement center during their June 14 meeting.
