Ridge Cowboy Church honors first responders with annual meal

The Ridge Cowboy Church hosted their annual First Responders Meal on Saturday, June 3. Over 40 meals were prepared for the Breckenridge Fire Department, Stephens County Jail, Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Breckenridge Police Department, Stephens Memorial Hospital, Stephens County Dispatch and Sacred Cross EMS.

City Manager speaks at Rotary meeting

Breckenridge City Manager Cynthia Northrop updated the Rotary Club of Breckenridge on the city’s current road and wastewater improvement project. Northrop told Rotarians during their Tuesday, June 13 meeting that she understands the need for road improvement in the city.

MSU announces area Spring 2023 graduate

One local student graduated from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, in Spring 2023. Elizabeth Ann Sloan, of Breckenridge, graduated summa cum laude, with a Bachelor of Science in Education.

Rural broadband survey available

The Texas Broadband Development Office (BDO), in partnership with Texas State Technical College, is asking the public for input on internet accessibility, affordability and usage. BDO, which is administered by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, will use the Digital Opportunity Plan: Public Survey to develop a Texas Digital Opportunity Plan, which is required to draw down federal funding for connecting Texans to reliable, highspeed internet.

Authorities search for missing kayaker on Hubbard Creek Lake

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office began a search for a missing person at Hubbard Creek Lake near the Village Inn boat ramp Sunday night after a kayak capsized as a thunderstorm traveled through the area, June 11. Officials from SCSO, Stephens County Constables office, Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Parks and Wildlife resumed the search Monday morning.

City moves forward on street improvements

The city of Breckenridge took steps in its plan to improve city streets last month at its monthly city commission meeting. With the help of city commissioners, Mayor Bob Sims and other community leaders and the public, a five-year improvement plan was announced.

Missing kayaker located in Hubbard Creek Lake

The body of a missing kayaker was found Tuesday morning after a nearly two-day-long search on Hubbard Creek Lake. 

Stephens County Sheriff Kevin Roach confirmed the deceased missing body of Dakota Matthew Boulevard, 42, of Breckenridge was found around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday morning southwest of the Village Inn boat ramp. Boulevard had been missing since his kayak capsized Sunday night.
