Williams joins Breckenridge American

After spending almost four years at The Graham Leader, Mike Williams has taken the mantle of staff writer of the Breckenridge American. Leaving the Indianapolis Star, where he was a sports beat writer who covered college basketball, the Indianapolis 500 and more, Williams started in sports at The Graham Leader in 2019.

Summer reading begins

The Breckenridge Library kicked off its summer program last week with a visit from the Creature Teacher. The summer reading program will continue each Tuesday through the end of July with guest readers visiting the library each week at 2 p.m.

BPD, Crime Stoppers partner for free security cameras

The Breckenridge Police Department and Stephens County TX Crime Stoppers are partnering together to provide security cameras to property owners in Breckenridge. The partnership is working in conjunction with the Crime Stoppers’ See Something/ Say Something campaign.

MSU announces spring honor students

Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls released a list of its spring honor students Monday, May 22, which included three students from Breckenridge. The list included 958 honor students for the Spring 2023 semester.

Battle of the Badges draws blood for those in need

The annual Battle of the Badges Blood drive took place last week sponsored by the Breckenridge Rotary Club. The drive provided a friendly competition between the Breckenridge Police Department, Breckenridge Fire Department and the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office while giving community members an opportunity to donate potentially life-saving blood.

First National Bank gets new name

Clear Fork Bank, N.A., formerly known as First National Bank Albany/Breckenridge, will continue to operate under the same local ownership, leadership, and staff at its six branches. The new name was chosen to differentiate the bank in the marketplace and provide flexibility as it expands.

State delays STAAR, EOC results

The Texas Education Agency released guidance earlier this month regarding access to spring STAAR/End-of-Course exam results being delayed from the state. According to the release, this delay was due to the redesign of the exams and the state accountability system.
