The Breckenridge High School Class of 2023 said goodbye to their alma mater and hello to their future Friday, May 26. Graduation was held at the Breckenridge ISD Athletics and Fine Arts Center in front of a large crowd of family, friends and proud supporters of the seniors.

BISD summer feeding program begins next week

The annual summer meal program, which provides free meals for children 18 and younger, begins in June at East Elementary School. The Texas Department of Agriculture partners with locations around the state to provide meals in areas where more than 50% of children are eligible for free or reduced-price meals.

City sees negative sales tax collections for March

The city of Breckenridge’s positive trend in sales taxes came to an end in March with a decrease in collections from the same period a year prior. These allocations are based on sales made in March by businesses that report tax monthly and sales made in January, February and March by quarterly filers.

Battle of the Badges blood drive next week

The Breckenridge Battle of the Badges blood drive will take place next week and is being sponsored by the Breckenridge Rotary Club. Participants are asked to donate life-saving blood and to cast their ballot for their favorite local first responder and to vote for the Breckenridge Police Department, Breckenridge Fire Department or Stephens County Sheriff’s Offi ce.

Mixed drink sales now legal in city limits

A special meeting of the Breckenridge City Commissioners was held last Tuesday to certify the results of the May 6 general and special election. Proposition 1, which legalizes the sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages in the city of Breckenridge, was overwhelmingly approved by voters.

Recently, 21-year-old United States Air Force Senior Airman Christina Younger surprised her younger siblings, Lillie and James Kropelnicki, while they ate lunch in the cafeteria at East Elementary. The children had no idea their sister was coming home on leave and the family worked with the school to make the reunion special for them.

Gas prices fall 3.6 cents

Average gasoline prices in Texas have fallen 3.6 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.03/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 24.7 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 124.0 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 3.2 cents in the last week and stands at $3.94 per gallon.

County to repair, replace damaged AC units

During their Monday, May 8 meeting, Stephens County Commissioners discussed the previously tabled issue of opening and accepting sealed bids offered by multiple HVAC contractors in regards to replacing and repairing damaged air conditioning units within county government buildings.
