Rogers introduces bill for regional utility authority

Texas House District 60 State Representative Glenn Rogers has introduced a bill proposing the Cross Timbers Regional Utility Authority (CTRUA) for North Central Texas. The CTRUA would undertake the task of coordinating water conservation and acquisition efforts for the region of Parker County, Palo Pinto County and Stephens County.

Positive sales tax trend continues

The city of Breckenridge will see another increase in sales tax returns this month from the same period a year prior. These allocations are based on sales made in January by businesses that report tax monthly.

City discusses dog ownership

The requirements for owning a dog were discussed during the Breckenridge City Commissioners meeting Tuesday, April 11. An animal control officer advised since January of this year, eight dogs have been adopted out of the shelter, 17 have been placed with rescues, and another 22 have been reunited with their owners.

City discusses water, sewage leak

The city of Breckenridge was under a boil water notice earlier this month after a utility contractor hit a 12-inch water main. The city manager updated commissioners on the situation during their meeting last Tuesday, April 11.

City to add surcharge to monthly water bills

Residents in Breckenridge will soon see an additional charge on their monthly water bill. Breckenridge City Commissioners voted to approve a $5 surcharge to each resident’s water bill during last Tuesday’s meeting.

BISD to install vape detectors

Breckenridge ISD approved the installation of vape and e-cigarette detection devices in campuses throughout the district, during their Monday, April 10 meeting. Unlike traditional cigarettes, vapes are either lightly scented or unscented, making it difficult for educators to be aware of when students are using them.

Sales tax holiday this weekend

A tax-free weekend for certain emergency preparation supplies will be held this weekend. The state’s sales tax weekend will run from 12:01 a.m. Saturday, April 22 until midnight Monday, April 24. The holiday was approved by the Texas Legislature in 2015.
