The annual Stephens County Frontier Days will be held Friday May, 5 through Sunday May, 7 at Breckenridge City Park. Annual events will be returning, with additional features being added to the weekend-long event.
April marks Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month, a cause locally led by many organizations. Stephens County Commissioners signed a declaration during their Monday, March 27 meeting recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
A Breckenridge man took a plea deal Thursday, March 30 in the 90th Judicial District Court in Stephens County. The plea bargain was reached in consultation with the victim who was 16 at the time of the offense.
Average gasoline prices in Texas have risen 8.5 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.23/g today, according to Gas-Buddy’s survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 16.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 45.3 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 1.6 cents in the last week and stands at $4.15 per gallon.
Stephens County 4-H members Kadynce and Krawford Kennedy spent their spring break exhibiting heifers and steers at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This brother and sister pair work year round to prepare their cattle for major stock shows. Their hard work and dedication paid off at the Houston Livestock Show. In the Junior Breeding Heifer Show Kadynce and her heifer LHB DIXIE ERICA ET217 won Reserve Champion Angus Heifer and went on to compete at the highest level for heifers at the HLSR and were awarded Reserve Supreme Cham- pion of the British Division. It was 3rd grader, Krawford’s first year to show at the HLSR. He walked out of the ring with a second-place ribbon with the heifer his family raised, KENNEDY QUEEN 244.
Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Yuri Huntington spoke about the progress that has been made within the chamber, crediting teamwork as the main factor for their success during a busy time of year.
After 84 years, Stephens County is seeking to reinstate their constitutional county court. Commissioners voted unanimously in support of the proposed legislation Monday, March 27 during their regular scheduled meeting.
First Baptist Church of Breckenridge will be hosting a fundraiser Monday, April 17 in the Family Life Center, located at 301 S. Rose Avenue, benefiting Stephens Memorial Hospital. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $25 each and available in the hospital gift shop. All proceeds and donations go directly toward the purchase of an ultrasound machine.
