SCSO issues warning about burglaries

According to a statement issued by the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, there has been an increase in burglaries over the last month within and just outside the city limits of Breckenridge. SCSO stated that the suspect, or suspects, are targeting businesses, specifically cash boxes and safes.

Texas again leads state in new corporate projects

Texas once again has topped the list for new and expanded corporate facilities added in a year, according to Site Selection Magazine. With 1,028 new projects in 2022, the state had more than the next two states combined – Illinois and Ohio.

Gas prices on the rise across the state

Average gasoline prices in Texas have risen 7.2 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.93/g today, according to GasBuddy's survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 10.3 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 77.6 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 4.6 cents in the last week and stands at $4.34 per gallon.

Bucks go 2-2 in Graham tourney

After a 13-1 loss at Holliday to open the 2023 baseball season Monday, Feb. 20, the Breckenridge Buckaroos traveled to Graham last weekend for the annual Graham baseball tournament. After struggling with a pair of losses Friday, the Bucks earned their first win of the season Saturday with a 14-9 victory over Bowie.

Positive sales tax trend continues in Breckenridge

The city of Breckenridge will see another increase in sales tax returns this month from the same period a year prior. These allocations are based on sales made in December by businesses that report tax monthly; October, November and December sales by quarterly filers; and 2022 sales by businesses that report tax annually.

The Breckenridge Fine Arts Center hosted the town’s annual Father Daughter Dance, held Saturday, Feb. 25. Dads and daughters were able to spend an evening together enjoying a meal and dancing to a variety of music.

V-Dubbs Smokehouse celebrated their business with a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday, Feb. 24. In addition to the ribbon cutting, owner Gary Wadzeck was presented with a Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce member plaque. Afterwards, attendees were encouraged to try free samples of food and sauces with a portion of sales benefiting Breckenridge local Rodney Hartfield.
