Christmas parade next weekend

Breckenridge’s annual Christmas parade will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 around downtown Breckenridge. The event is hosted each year by the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce and this year’s theme is “All Things Santa.”

BISD to seek four-day committee

The Breckenridge ISD school board will move forward with the next step in the process of determining whether to go to a four-day school schedule, or stay at the current fiveday schedule. Board members discussed the move at the regular board meeting Monday, Nov. 14 on the matter and agreed to seek out a sub-committee in order to gain as much insight as possible.

The McCoy family, located at the intersection of McAmis and West Elliot, have set up their annual Christmas decorations and lights display. Spectators and passersby can enjoy a wide variety of decorations and Christmas music that is played over a speaker in the front yard. Terry Mc-Coy says he enjoys setting it up each year and contributing to the Christmas spirit here in Breckenridge.

Gas prices decline during Thanksgiving

Average gasoline prices in Texas have fallen 10.2 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.83/g today, according to Gas-Buddy's survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 31.9 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 11.0 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 7.9 cents in the last week and stands at $5.20 per gallon.

SMH recognized by county

Stephens County Judge Michael Roach recognized Stephens Memorial Hospital in honor of National Rural Health Day, during the commissioners’ meeting Monday, Nov. 14.

Former VSO honored

Donald Henry Smith Jr. was honored during the regularly scheduled Stephens County Commissioners meeting Monday, Nov. 14. Smith passed away a few weeks ago due to health complications and in his place at the meeting was his wife, Francis.

Breckenridge sees another positive sales tax month

The city of Breckenridge will see another increase in sales tax returns this month from the same period a year prior. These allocations are based on sales made in September by businesses that report tax monthly, and on sales made in July, August and September by quarterly filers.
