Buckaroos dominate district picks
Despite having two district rivals make it to the regional finals in the baseball state playoffs, the Breckenridge High School Baseball Team still managed to most of its starting lineup receive district honors.
Although making the postseason is often reward enough, senior Hunter Petty and freshmen Jake Escalon and Owen Woodward each received top honors in district selections with five other players being recognized following a postseason meeting in June.
Hunter Petty,
Co-pitcher of the year
Petty ended his high school career being selected as Region 1 District 7 co-pitcher of the year, alongside Jase Lopez of Brock.
Jake Escalon,
Catcher of the year
Escalon’s selection as catcher of the year may be a bit misleading, considering how much time he spend on the mound this season. According to maxpreps.com, Escalon finished the season batting .420, leading the Buckaroos in hits (29), RBIs (27) doubles (8) and home runs with two. Buckaroo baseball fans have three more years watch Escalon considering he accomplished all of these feats his freshman year.
Owen Woodward,
Newcomer of the year
Akin to Escalon, Woodward also made an impact on the maiden voyage of his high school baseball career. He was just a hit shy of finishing second in team hitting with similar with several slim shortfalls in many other statistical categories.
All-district selections
