Local officials break ground on new medical facility

Breckenridge citizens will have a few more options for where they seek medical and dental care with the expansion of the ResourceCare facility, located on Walker Street.

The 9,034 square foot facility will offer 16 exam rooms, five areas for dental operations, a counseling office, as well as dental and medical labs that RescourceCare Chief Information Officer Patrick Muncie said were part of a grant by the Federal Health and Human Resources Department.

“They felt our community needed this so they awarded us a grant that helped with a big part of the building of the property,” Muncie said. “Community health centers were designed in 1965 t help get medical and dental services to rural communities and inner-city communities. When you look at a lot of rural parts of the state, there are not a lot of doctors offices. This program helps to get communities facilities like this, that provides health care, so you don’t have to drive to Abilene of Fort Worth to see your doctor.”

Along with offering expanded offices ResourceCare will continue its current practices such as offering WIC, CARR and other services. The facility broke ground Aug. 18, fitting date considering it was National Community Health Center Week, and Muncie said construction should wrap some time in May.

“The target is to open in May,” Muncie said. “They should have the foundation in, the roof up and the walls on by Christmas. From Christmas to spring it’s going to be all of the enterior work, which takes awhile. Hopefully, by Christmas, the basic structure will be up.”
