Sloan Everett remembered through memorial, ride

The Everett family and friends gathered Saturday morning  to remember and honor Sloan Everett with a tree dedication in Breckenridge’s Miller Park and a letter was read from the Everett family. 

The tree is located on the walking path just behind the American Legion building along with a memorial stone to commemorate the life and contributions of Sloan Everett.

After a prayer, everyone dispersed to the trade barn, where registration for the Sloan Everett  Memorial Bike Ride event began, encompassing three levels of ability in order to accommodate many of the younger children riding with their parents. 

Sheriff Will Holt was on hand with Stephens County Sheriff’s Department deputies lending a hand and Breckenridge City Police force to make sure it was a safe ride for all participants. The first destination was Texas Tanks on Highway 183 south, where the bike riders could turn around for the short route. The second route went on to Hart Cemetery and County Road 576, where they turned around and returned to the park.

A third group of about 22 bikers went on to complete the longest distance, which was to Gunsight Baptist Church and return to the park. There was fruit snacks and water available at the park and a badge on a lanyard to signify a completion of each route by all participants. 

Jim and Teresa Everett were seen among the participants who finished from the first route. They are the parents of Sloan Everett and his five sisters, who also participated along with several of the young grandchildren in the extended family.
