Wed, 11/08/2017 - 4:52 pm

A Breckenridge man remains in the Stephens County Jail on multiple felony charges after allegedly stabbing four people last Friday.

Ben Acosta, 34 of Breckenridge, awaits his first court appearance following two incidents last Friday night resulting in four Breckenridge citizens receiving treatment for stab wounds at area hospitals.

Around 7:30 p.m. last Friday investigators with the Breckenridge Police Department responded to Stephens Memorial Hospital in reference to a 38-year-old female with a stab wound to her abdomen. The victim was not able to give a full statement at the time when investigators spoke with her. Hospital personnel transported the first victim to a hospital in Abilene for further treatment. Investigators after initially believed Acosta, who had been in a relationship with the victim, had committed the stabbing. Before pursing the matter further, BPD investigators received a dispatched to the Allsups convenience store parking lot on Walker Street to investigate another stabbing incident involving multiple victims.

Once on the scene investigators identified Acosta and deduced he and the suspect from the earlier stabbing were the same person. Each of the victims, a 16-year-old male with a stab wound to his upper right bicep, a 40-year-old female with a stab wound to the left forearm, near her elbow, and a 45-year-old male with multiple stab wounds to his right upper abdomen, his left arm near his wrist and his bottom lip; were all transported to SMH for further treatment. The oldest male was also transported to a hospital in Abilene due to the extensiveness of his wounds.

The 40-year-old female was admitted to Stephens Memorial hospital for her injuries. There were multiple witnesses at the scene and the BPD are working to get statements from them. The weapon that was used was a black and yellow grip fixed stainless steel blade. As the officers were putting the suspect in the patrol car, the suspect began fighting the officers and an officer was kicked in the face during the altercation.

Acosta is being held in the Stephens County jail for felony aggravated assault(family violence) with a deadly weapon; three counts of felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, felony assault on a public servant and misdemeanor resisting arrest or transport.

The Breckenridge American will provide any updates as they become available.
