Verna Huffman Blue, 90, of Breckenridge, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, April 21 at Gunsight Baptist Church, with Rev. Rex Boggs officiating. Interment will follow in the Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 20 at Morehart Mortuary.

Verna Mae Huffman was born April 14, 1928 to parents, Carl Lee Huffman and Maybelle Durossette Huffman. She grew up in Eliasville and attended school until eighth grade. 

On May 15, 1944, she married Burt Blue in Breckenridge, when he came home one weekend on furlough. She lived in Odessa from 1948 until she moved to Breckenridge in 1964. 

Verna worked as a school crossing guard for 15 years. She was an ordained minister, as well as a Sunday school teacher for 50 years at various churches, including Rose Avenue Baptist Church. Every Sunday she would take children to church, sometimes in three car loads. She was a member of Gunsight Baptist Church. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Sr. and Maybelle Huffman; her husband, Burt Blue Sr.; two daughters, Jannette Henderson, Dolores McKee; one daughter-in-law, Rhonda Blue; four brothers; four sisters; two grandsons, Robert Blue, Mike Blue; one great-grandson, Douglas Fowler; and one great-great-granddaughter, Lillie Meeks.

Verna is survived by her children, Burt “Sonny” Blue Jr. of Breckenridge, Mike Blue and wife Sherry of Moran, John Blue, James Blue, both of Breckenridge, Marie Jackson and husband Buddy of Coleman, Annette Yoes and husband Joe of Breckenridge; one brother, Calvin Huffman and wife Clara of Breckenridge; 30 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
