Barbara Squyres, 91, of Breckenridge, passed away Saturday, Aug. 21. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25 at Morehart Mortuary. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at Morehart Mortuary, with Michael Roach officiating. Interment will follow in the Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Barbara Fay Christie was born Sept. 20, 1929, in Breckenridge to F.J. Christie and Winifred Mae Steadman. She graduated from Breckenridge High School on May 26, 1948 and married James Claude “JC” Squyres that very evening. For the next 68 years, she and J.C. were inseparable. Lifelong residents of Stephens County, together they owned and operated Squyres Oil Company, Inc., raised cattle and horses and traveled whenever time permitted. She loved her family, being outdoors at the ranch and taking care of any animal that needed her nurturing touch. She had a passion for antiques, photography and square dancing with her husband. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, Jack Christie, her sister, Jean Brewster and one granddaughter, Melissa Pugh.

She enjoyed a well lived life with good health most of her life. Her last years were made comfortable by Clear Path Home Care caregivers JM, Michelle, Tammy, Tabeth, Harlee, Lou, Krisity and Valerie. As well, a heartfelt gratitude to the Solaris staff and Lachelle for their compassion during difficult circumstances.

Mrs. Squyres is survived by her two daughters, Karen Squyres, Jan Goodall and husband Gregg, all of Breckenridge; three grandchildren, Brad Starnes, Stephanie Luster and husband Lionel and Travor Terrell; seven great grandchildren; and ten great great grandchildren.
