Services for Cecil Mayes, 89, Oilman, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 10, at the Cowboy Church of Erath County with Dr. James McLeod officiating. Burial followed at Breckenridge Cemetery at 3 p.m. Thursday March 10. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, at the Cowboy Church of Erath County.

Cecil was born in South Bend, on June 18, 1932, to Elmer and Ruth (Easley) Mayes. He married Joyce LaJean Warford on Nov. 1, 1952, in Cisco. She preceded him in death Jan. 16, 2015.

Cecil was a member of the Cowboy Church of Erath County. He was a past President and member of BPOE. He also served as a County Judge for Stephens County for four years. Cecil was a veteran of the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was the first Executive Director of West Central Texas Council of Governments, and he was a former owner of the Throckmorton Tribune newspaper.

Cecil is survived by his son, Werth Mayes (Sadie) of Stephenville; two grandchildren, Lauren Mayes of Stephenville, and MacKenzie Blaisdell (Daniel) of Weatherford; one great-grandson, Rider Mayes of Stephenville; and a brother, Neil Mayes of Grandview, Texas.
