Dovie Bussell-Crowley, 98, of Breckenridge went to be with the Lord on February 7, 2020 in Ranger, Texas. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 2 p.m. at the Breckenridge Cemetery with Eddy Hooker officiating. Services have been entrusted to Melton Kitchens Funeral Home.

Dovie Ethel Hudson was born on July 24, 1921 in Proffitt, Texas to parents, Thomas Jefferson Hudson III and Lillian Coon Hudson. Her family moved to west Texas when she was two months old by covered wagon and settled on a farm in Dawson County. It was there she attended school in Klondike, excelling as a student and athlete, even playing on the boy’s baseball team. She married Morry Davis Bussell in 1938, and they had three children, Christine in 1941, James in 1942 and Chester in 1944. They lived as a family in Lamesa, and she worked in a clothing factory during the day and took in ironing and sewing at night. When the factory closed, she moved to Breckenridge to work in the clothing factory here and continued to take in ironing and sewing at night. She married Gaylord Crowley in 1958 and continued her work as a seamstress. Dovie was an excellent seamstress and had countless customers, many of whom became lifelong friends. Dovie often created custom garments, such as formals for coronation, cheerleading uniforms and costumes for school plays at BHS.

Dovie loved to laugh and have fun; she enjoyed bowling on various leagues and especially any chance to go fishing. She also loved to work in her yard. Dovie always took great pride in her home she and Gaylord built, in which she designed and played a large role on overseeing the construction. Dovie’s greatest joy though was her family, and she was lovingly called, Ma Ma by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and multiple great grandchildren. She spoiled them with her amazing cooking, often making them their favorites late at night if one stopped by for a visit. Dovie is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers; J.C. Hudson, Arlon Hudson and Gene Hudson, sisters; Edith Buckalew, Belle Cooper, Verna Lois Lawson and two sisters that passed away at birth. She is also preceded in death by her son, James and daughter Christine.

Dovie is survived by one son, Chester Bussell and wife, Judy of Odessa, grandchildren; Scott Bussell of Goldthwaite, Texas, Jeff Bussell and wife Ashley of Midland, Suzanne Villa of Breckenridge, Rex Bussell and wife Misty of Cisco, Jennifer Bussell of Odessa, brothers; Tom Hudson and wife, Geneva of Throckmorton, Glen Hudson of Throckmorton, Jim Hudson of Commerce and Donald Hudson of Seymour, great grandchildren; Jason Bussell and wife, Tiffany, Eric Bussell, Abby Villa, Frazier Bussell,  great great grandchildren; Paige Bussell, Kyler Bussell, Guy Nick Bussell, Donavan Bussell, Brannan Bussell, Frazier Bussell, Vicki Villa, Cade Coats, Ashton Coats, numerous nieces and nephews along with lifelong friends.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Ranger Care Center. In lieu of flowers, they request donations be made in her honor at Meals on Wheels of Breckenridge or a charity of choice. Those memorials can be left at the Melton Kitchens Funeral Home. Condolences can be made at www.meltonkitchens.com
