BRECKENRIDGE — Eddie Cates, 65, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 20 at The Lighthouse Church with Bishop W.C. Roach and Rev. Rex Boggs officiating. Interment followed in the Hart Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation was held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19 at Morehart Mortuary.

Eddie Joe Cates was born on Sept. 4, 1953 in Edmond, Oklahoma. He was raised in Breckenridge by his parents, Oliver Parks Cates and Margie Faye Westmoreland Cates. In his younger years, he worked as a carpenter, building numerous homes in Breckenridge and Stephens County. He also had a paint and body shop and worked in the oilfield. In his later years, Eddie drove a truck for several companies, including Texas Tank Trucks, EMCO and Roe Trucking. On Nov. 14, 2015, he married Patricia Porteous in Breckenridge. Eddie was a former member of Gunsight Baptist Church and a more recent member of The Lighthouse Church. Eddie enjoyed fishing, boating and riding his Harley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Margie Cates; his grandmother, Ileta Greer and husband Chip; and granddaughter, Kennedy Cates.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Cates; five children, Kevin Cates and wife Emily, Eric Cates and wife Angela, Courtney Cates Youngblood and husband Michael, Joanne Stockton, Kayce Cates Smalley and husband Ryan; fifteen grandchildren, Hudson, Everett, Eli, Campbell and Jackson Cates, Austin and Cooper Cates, Cayden, Maverick and Cutter Youngblood, Malia Stockton, Ethan and Skylar Leaper, Samantha, Karter and Karsyn Smalley; one brother, Jesse Cates; and numerous step-children and step-grandchildren.
