Ernesto “Ernie” Calsoncin, age 78 of Breckenridge, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020. Funeral Mass was held at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 29 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Dias officiating. Interment followed in the Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Rosary was recited from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 28 at Morehart Mortuary.

Ernesto “Ernie” D. Calsoncin was born April 24, 1942 in Melvin, Texas to his parents, Dionisio Calsoncin and Eloisa Diaz. On Feb. 2, 1960, Ernie married Rosalita Diaz in Brownfield. In 1974, he started his own business, the infamous Ernie’s Spanish Kitchen in Breckenridge. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and sports of any kind, like bowling and golf. Ernie was active in the community, sponsoring several events, including the annual Ernie’s Invitational golf tournament. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. While at family gatherings, Ernie was often found taking pictures. Ernesto was preceded in death by his parents, Dionisio and Eloisa Calsoncin; his grandparents; one aunt and three brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Rosalita Calsoncin of Breckenridge; five children, Rudy Calsoncin and wife Gloria, Elda Calsoncin, Dennis Calsoncin and wife Cindy, Ronnie Calsoncin and wife Christy, Elsa Calsoncin; seven sisters; one brother; ten grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren.
