Evelyn Perry, age 92 of Breckenridge, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 16 in the Breckenridge Cemetery with the Reverend Don Bearden officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation was held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., prior to the service on Saturday, Jan. 16 at Morehart Mortuary.

Evelyn Maudin Davis was born Sept. 27, 1928 in Hopkins County, Texas to parents Huie Martin Davis and Addie Irene Romans Davis. The oldest of four girls she was raised on a farm. She graduated from a one room school in Miller Grove in 1946. A little later she went to work for Sears and Roebuck in the mail order department in Dallas where Herman Harold Perry met his mail order bride who he married March 6, 1953. She and Herman were transferred to Bay City where Herman was one of the first servicemen for Sears. While in Bay City, Donald and Dwayne were born. The family later moved to Brownwood, Herman’s home area, and then in 1968 Sears transferred Herman to Breckenridge. Evelyn had been a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Breckenridge since 1968. She had worked for Davis Manufacturing, Walls Industries, Central Texas Opportunity, the census bureau, and for Jerry Gibson’s Drug Store until eventually retiring. After retiring she helped with the church’s food pantry for several years and delivered Meals on Wheels as long as she was able. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Perry; her parents, Huie and Irene Davis; her father and mother-in-law that she loved very much, Townsend and Maude Perry; and one niece and nephew.

Mrs. Perry is survived by her two sons, Donald H. Perry and wife Dr. Cynthia Perry, Dwayne Perry, all of Breckenridge; three sisters, Lillie Belle Renshaw of Hopkins County, Mildred Abbott of Cleburne, Bertha Ann Sparks and husband William of Hopkins County; three grandchildren, Douglas Jones and wife Debbie of Seaford, Va., Samuel Stephen Jones of Abilene, Amanda Perry Halari and husband Michael of Breckenridge; seven great grandchildren, Denae Jones, Abigail Jones, Kean Jones, Evelyn Halari, Shane Halari, Savannah Halari, Eli Halari and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church Building Fund or to Meals on Wheels and may be left at Morehart Mortuary. Condolences may be made online at morehartmortuary.net.
